Profile Information

YOUR ROSETAN ROOTS:
Roseto Valfortore
LAST NAME, also SOPRANNOME (FAMILY or PERSONAL NICKNAME):
Last name Sbrocchi...sopranome not known
WHERE DO YOU CURRENTLY LIVE: (city/state only - no street address please)
Lismore, New South Wales
COMMENTS:
My grandfather was Giovanni Sbrocchi who migrated to the USA along with his father, Felipe, and brother and sister, Antonio and Rosa. He travelled into Canada, where he met his wife to be, Angela Patrissi. They wed in 1904 and soon after came to Australia. They had 7 children.
ABOUT ME:
I first visited Roseto Valfortore in 1996 and again in 2000. Growing up in Australia it was very hard to find early information regarding our family heritage (my grandparents died before I was born) as we knew no other families outside our own (in Australia) who had our surname. Travelling to Roseto Valfortore opened up a floodgate of knowledge, history and family information.

Duca di Galliera

My grandfather, Giovanne Sbrocchi, left Naples on the Duca di Galliera. Just wondering if any other Rosetani ancestors left on this ship.

Thanks Kerryne - have you by chance seen the video slideshow that Phil put together for me with the photos from our Tuscany trip. I think he did a great job for us. We were two couples from Canada and one from U.S. sharing a villa for a week. It was lovely.

Hi Kerynne. Yes, I did see it yesterday and had a good look at it. I agree there are very strong different features from my grandfather. I think it was the build and shape of face that hit me on the first photo that you submitted. I wouldn't be surprised that while there isn't a direct connection, that there could be a "shirttail" relative kind of connection. In the end, so many of us share common names that it makes it all so very interesting.

Hi Kerynne. I will look forward to seeing more photos of yours. I agree, it was the build and shape of face between our two grandfathers that caught my attention. The eyes are very different for one thing - but still it was something that just hit me. Do you have any names in your Sbrocchi tree further back than your grandfather Giovanne? I'm curious to see if there could be a connection somewhere. Re: my photos I feel very fortunate to have been able to go through albumns of two of my aunts to scan loads of photos. My mother didn't seem to see the value of old photos - i.e. no albums for her - you're lucky if you can find a photo tucked away in a drawer somewhere! LOL

Hi Kerryne. I was looking at your Sbrocchi photos and this is a stretch, but the photo of your grandfather Giovanne made me think of my grandfather Luigi Lanza. His mother was Maria Grazia Sbrocchi. I have no photos of her at all, whereas I do of my maternal great grandmother. Have a look at my grandfather in my page - in the family photo (Lanza/Sabatino) - group photo with Luigi on the far left. The build, shape of face, hair line etc makes one wonder if our grandfathers are connected. Again as I say - a stretch - but the likeness hit me. Maybe it won't you! Cheers

Hi Kerynne
Time is going so fast and you will soon be here! It has been a long time. The family has grown so much since you were last here. Lots to get caught up on. So many are going to Italy this year. Wish I was too. This site is very interesting. Have to make time to reads the past comments.

I am glad that you found the two Australian forum discussions. You can use that area to tell us all about any italian life there, the 'little italy' scene, etc.
