Two Rosetos

Heritage network for Roseto Valfortore-Italy and it's sister city Roseto-PA

YOUR PROFILE

SIGN UP - When you sign up on this network we ask you some obvious questions to finish up the process of making you a member. In light of the current identity theft problems, please put only your city/state, not your street address.  There is also a birthdate requirement to keep minors from becoming members (NING rules).

MY PROFILE SETTINGS - This is where you alter your profile AFTER you've been given your own MY PAGE/Profile tab. On the right side of your screen is a boxed area with a link called [My Profile Settings]. When you click it, you are taken to your account info. If you wish people to see where you live, there are slots for City, Country, Birthday, Gender, etc. at the [Account] marker. Filling in those will make where you live and the rest visible as attachments to your photo. Leaving them BLANK allows you whatever amount of PRIVACY you feel comfortable with.
PLEASE DO NOT USE YOUR STREET ADDRESS IN THE CITY SLOT THERE OR ANYWHERE ELSE ON Two Rosetos on NING!

CONTROL OF YOUR ACCOUNT INFO Here is a bit more detail.
(Click My Profile Settings or Profile box edit on your My Page)

Account - This is your account info. Anything you allow to be visible or fill in will appear to everyone with your photo. You can also change your email address and password here. Your Page Address is the direct hyperlink URL to have people view your My Page. It's advisable not to change this or your friends won't be able to find you again.

About Me - Tell the people on Two Rosetos more about yourself. Questions marked with a lock are private and only visible to Administrators. These are the profile questions you answered when you signed up. Due to the ugly fact that there are internet identity thieves and we're currently keeping the site wide open, do not fill in your street address when answering Where are you living now, only city/state.

Privacy - Who can view your photos, videos, and blog posts by default? This area gives you control over who may view your input, and whether you wish to approve people before their posts are visible.

Email - Email Notifications: What network activity do you want to receive an email notification for? You can decide how much or little you wish to be bugged with email from this site.

CHANGING YOUR PHOTO - While you've got your account info open, you might consider uploading a nice facial shot to take the place of the pre-selected Italian icon.  You should edit your photo so that it is square (most important), and 175x175 pixels (because NING will chop it down to that size regardless).  If your photo isn't square, they will "crop from the top" and cut off the top of your head.  I provide a link to a very fun and easy Photo Resizer for you convenience in this matter.

Once you've got your photo ready to upload, go to the Your Photo marker (see below), and click on the framed picture icon.  Browse your computer for the place where you stored that square shot, select it, and click Upload.  In a few seconds you should see a tiny thumbnail shot of your pic.

After any changes to the My Settings screen, go to the bottom and SAVE CHANGES or all your work will be in vain and have to be repeated.

MY PAGE TAB - If you find yourself at a loss as to what is possible or you can't figure out something, first take a look at Phil's profile page. I've got a little of everything on it to give you an idea. You can do as much or as little when it comes to personalizing your MY PAGE tab. For those who just want to keep it simple,,, no problem.

Those who know html, php, or css programming will have a field day. Everything on the network is about hyperlinking, pulling in RSS feeds, <embed codes>, formatting text, adding gadgets, widgets and blidgets, with more to come.

For those who would like to customize the position of features on this page see the following Customize

Take it slow, browse at your leisure and don't knock it until you've played around with it on several visits. Also try the other NING networks out there to see how they're constructed. Just go to www.ning.com and you can search on "alumni" to get a good idea.

COMMENT WALL - I thought it wise to clarify how NING works, especially on MY PAGE (your profile page), depending on whether you're signed in or just browsing. When you are signed in, clicking the MY PAGE tab will take you directly to your profile. If you are NOT signed in, clicking the MY PAGE tab will not know you, and display the sign up screen. (You can get around this by viewing the full MEMBERS page listing and clicking on yourself.)

When viewing the profile page of others (or viewing your own when you are NOT signed in), you will see ONLY what the person you are viewing wants you to see on their profile page. They can keep the VIDEO box, PHOTO box, LATEST ACTIVITY, etc., empty (set to 0), and no one else will see those boxes.

When you are on another person's profile page (or viewing your own when you are NOT signed in), the COMMENT WALL will only display [ADD COMMENT] for the entry box along with all the comments left there. However, when you ARE signed in and viewing your own profile page, the COMMENT WALL will also display the following under every comment: [Comment Back] [View Thread] [Send Message/Add as Friend] [Delete Comment].

When you ARE signed in and want to reply back to someone who has added a comment to your wall, do NOT put the comment into your own COMMENT WALL and click [ADD COMMENT]. Instead, click on [Comment Back] and it will take you to that person's profile page where you post your comment back and they will be notified that you left a comment. The point being that if you comment in your own comment wall, the other person will NOT be notified. (People will think you've snubbed them, tension will build, wars will commence, yadda yadda yadda.)

If you are commenting to another person in an on-going conversation, clicking [View Thread] will show you COMMENTS (both their comments and your comments back), on the topics you've discussed.

Once you add a person as a FRIEND, the [Add as Friend] disappears and is replaced by [Send Message].  If you click [Send Message] then you will NOT send a COMMENT but rather an EMAIL to that person through the Ning Message Center.

If you click [Delete Comment] then the COMMENT will be deleted, AND it will also be deleted from any THREAD conversation it may have been a part of.

Everyone has the ability to filter what is posted on their COMMENT WALL. The COMMENT WALL box has an EDIT, under which you have the choice of having members' posts go immediately on your wall, or requiring that you view it FIRST, and then either Approve or Delete it before anyone sees it!

RSS FEEDS - Ever notice this symbol on your page

Each member has an RSS Feed Reader box in the left column of their profile page. Use it to promote your own RSS subscription that you've established on another venue, display your photos from another platform,,, anything you wish with RSS feed code.

AND, for those of you who want to keep tabs on who or what is happening on Two Rosetos on NING, the LATEST ACTIVITY section on the HOME tab has it's own RSS feed shortcut at the bottom. Copy it into your own RSS Feed Reader to stay in touch!
