Two Rosetos

Heritage network for Roseto Valfortore-Italy and it's sister city Roseto-PA

TERMS OF USE

PHOTO/VIDEO HANDLING & UPLOAD LIMITS - While there is no INDIVIDUAL limit to how many videos or photos anyone on this network can upload, there is a TOTAL LIMIT for free storage and bandwidth on the entire Two Rosetos site (10GB of storage and 100GB of bandwidth).  Regardless of how big and beautiful your photos are, Ning will compress them for display anyway and they still look marvelous.  To give you some idea of the scope we're talking about, most photos on site right now are well over 1MB (1,000,000 bytes).  What you see displayed is after being compressed to under 80KB (80,000 bytes).  So, using up site storage with your huge files is a LOSE/LOSE situation for every member.

Q: How can I tell if the photo I just loaded is too large?

A: Below the bottom right corner of the photo you will see the following:

Delete Photo

Click on View Full Size.  If at first you see the screen go wide, then a tiny part of the photo (like it will be huge on the page), then it settles down,,, you're photo size is VERY large.  If you move your cursor over the picture, it should look like a small magnifying glass with a "+" inside.  Right click any area of the photo, go to the bottom of that box and click "Properties".  Look for Size: and that is how many bytes your photo is taking up on the site.  Anything over 100000 is excessive.

Q: How can I edit my photo to decrease an excessive byte size?

NEW - FUN AND EASY "PICTURE FIXER", CLICK HERE: PHOTO RESIZER

A: Your computer usually comes with some photo editing software installed.  If not, your digital camera did or has a way to download some from the manufacturer's site.  If you know how to use it, there is usually an Image tab, or Edit tab with the ability to Crop, Resize, or Compress the image.  If you are unsure, let me know what editing software you are using and I'll send you back the instructions.

Q: Is there any other reason why I should resize my photo?

A: Uploading your photos to any website will go much faster because of the smaller size.

FURTHER DEFINITION - The latest high meg cameras can produce some amazing photos with as high as 12MB resolution (12,000,000 bytes).  I strongly recommend taking your photos at the highest resolution that your own camera will allow.  However, once you upload your photos into your computer it is imperative that you understand what to do next.  That high resolution is excellent for PRINT QUALITY output to a good inkjet printer and will rival prints produced by a camera shop.  BUT, that high resolution is overkill to the extreme for WEB-READY shots.  While the internet can make your photos look very nice, they are usually displayed at no more than 50KB (50,000 bytes).  So, uploading anything higher is just wasting all that resolution.  Your photo editing software will usually have the ability to resize photos (640x480 or smaller is recommended for web-ready), or compress to document, web-large, web-small, email-large, email-small sizes.  Look to achieve a byte size well under 100KB (100000 bytes) and you will have good quality on this site, and very speedy uploads.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you will be uploading more than two dozen photos of a certain theme (i.e., reunions, get-togethers, your trip to Italy, etc.), PLEASE CONTACT PHIL FIRST!  These are treated differently and I ask that  you let me help to make the presentation more enjoyable for all the members.

COPYRIGHTS & PERMISSIONS - "FAIR USE & FAIR DEALING" and "USEFUL ARTICLES" clauses under Standard Copyright and Intellectual Property Policy laws apply on Two Rosetos.

Reprint Permissions

I take my legal advice from a great source when it comes to quotes, linkage, photos, etc. - The American Bar Association! You will notice throughout this site that I attempt to follow their advice "to the letter" whenever possible. Here is what you should go by if you intend to upload or link to copyrighted material:

"You can link to any of our articles for free, and there’s no need to ask permission.

You may also quote small portions of our articles without asking our permission, provided you do so verbatim and with attribution. If you quote one of our articles on a Web site, we encourage you to link to the full text of the article on this site, but that is not required.

But if you want to print several copies to give to others, reproduce the article on your own Web site, include it in your marketing materials, or make some other use of our journalism, you have to ask our permission."

DOCUMENTS, PHOTOS & MUSIC - Any document, photo or music uploaded without copyright is deemed to have NO EXLUSIVE RIGHTS. Any photo using copyright needs to have permissions of persons displayed. Uploading of copyrighted material falls under Creative Commons: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License on Two Rosetos sites. [See also Reprint Permissions above]

VIDEOS - Because the embed codes must originate with the creator, if they make the codes available on networks (Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, etc.), usage on Two Rosetos is merely an extension of the creator's permission. When the creator blocks the embed codes, viewing will be automatically rescinded, as is the normal way. Uploading of copyrighted material falls under Creative Commons: Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike License on Two Rosetos sites.

APPROPRIATENESS - I would ask that anyone wishing to post or upload inappropriate material (i.e., comments, photos, videos, music, etc.), to keep in mind the APPROPRIATENESS issue. This is a site about Italians-specifically Rosetani. There are "other sites" to sign up for If you wish to convey or upload something else (i.e., EliotSpitzerCallGirls.com). I will warn any member I believe to be uploading or discussing inappropriate material and if not handled in a professional and courteous manner, I do reserve the right to delete it and/or ban the member from Two Rosetos on NING. Please respect the members here and there should be no issue over this.
